Birth of the Fountaine Pajot shipyard
In the late 1970s, the recreational boating market was booming, but the multihull market didn’t really exist yet. However, Jean-François Fountaine, a sailor and Olympic competitor, and Yves Pajot, also a renowned sailor, decided to combine their expertise to create a shipyard specializing in the construction of multihulls.
Fountaine Pajot then launched its first catamaran in 1976 in Aigrefeuille-d’Aunis, near La Rochelle. Their vision was to design cruising catamarans combining comfort, performance and safety.
