The Lagoon 380 is an iconic cruising catamaran in the world of recreational boating. This multihull has brought joy to many sailors and charter companies alike. It must be admitted that this sailboat has many strengths for a family cruising program, whether coastal or offshore. Designed by the naval architecture firm VPLP Design, it was built by the French shipyard Lagoon between 1999 and 2008, with a total of 548 units produced.

So let’s take a closer look at the Lagoon 380, a used multihull full of promise.

History of the Lagoon 380

Lagoon 380

Launched in 1999, the Lagoon 380 quickly established itself as a benchmark in the cruising catamaran market. It succeeded the Lagoon 37. Its design aimed to offer an optimal balance between performance, comfort, and ease of handling, thus meeting the expectations of sailors looking for a good multihull for family cruising. During its production period, it was the best-selling cruising catamaran in history, before being overtaken by another Lagoon model, the Lagoon 42.

Among its competitors at the time were the Fountaine Pajot Lavezzi 40 and the Leopard 38, which also offered interesting solutions for multihull cruising.

Interior Layout

The Lagoon 380 offers interior layouts designed to maximize space and comfort on board. Available in 3 or 4 cabin versions, it features:

  • Bright saloon: thanks to large windows, the saloon benefits from exceptional natural light, offering a panoramic view of the outside.
  • U-shaped kitchen: located on the same level as the saloon, the kitchen is equipped with everything needed for meal preparation at sea.
  • Spacious cabins: each cabin has sufficient storage and adequate ventilation, ensuring optimal comfort for occupants.
  • Functional heads: the heads are designed to offer practicality and comfort, with modern equipment.

Sailing Qualities of the Lagoon 380

Okay, the Lagoon 380 is not the fastest catamaran. But that’s not what is expected of it. The architects, renowned in the world of sailboat racing, have managed to create a pleasant catamaran despite its spacious living volume. In any case, the Lagoon 380 is appreciated for its sailing qualities. The most frequently mentioned points by owners are:

  • Maneuverability: The design of the Lagoon 380 allows for easy sailing, even with a reduced crew.
  • Performance: although designed for cruising, the Lagoon 380 offers satisfactory performance, with a comfortable cruising speed for its program.
