In 1972, at the age of 32, Tom Morris decided to leave Philadelphia and settle with his family on Mount Desert Island, Maine. A passionate sailor, he founded Morris Yachts with the ambition of building high-quality sailboats, blending traditional craftsmanship with technical innovations.
The first model produced was the Pemaquid Friendship Sloop, a 25-foot sailboat inspired by the region’s traditional fishing sloops. This model laid the foundation for the shipyard’s identity, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and refined aesthetics.

During the 1980s, Morris Yachts expanded its range, focusing on high-performance cruising sailboats.
