The Catana 40 is the very first catamaran to come out of a shipyard that showed its character from the start.
The Catana 40 was the first model released, in 1984, of the Catana construction sites, located in Cogolin. From the very beginning, this catamaran This will leave its mark on the DNA of a shipyard created by passionate sailors. Thierry Goyard and Jean Pierre Prade were two sailors who, at that time, already had extensive experience sailing around the world. When they crossed paths with, and encountered the plans of, the Australian architect Lock Crowther, a leading specialist in multihulls, it was the beginning of a long adventure.

This attractive sandwich construction gives the Catana 40 a weight of 5 tons, nothing like a modern boat which can weigh 3 to 4 tons more. This weight allows for… a fast catamaranEven in light winds, the platform, being quite high, prevents slamming in rough seas. Not all modern catamarans can boast the same. Furthermore, upwind, its hulls and daggerboards give this multihull excellent performance for a catamaran. For launching and arriving in port, the boat is equipped with two diesel engines. As for the deck hardware and rigging, there’s nothing to complain about. The boat was very well equipped.
Less bulk but well thought out
Since you can’t have everything, and the race for volume hadn’t started yet at the time, the spaces are smaller than on another catamaran of the same size.
The cockpit space is nothing like that of more modern designs. It’s completely enclosed, leaving only room for a table and seating. This configuration, however, may appeal to some due to its sense of security. Conversely, on deck, the small coachroof provides ample space on the hulls, and a net allows for easy sunbathing.
The Catana 40 is offered with 4 double cabins.Here too, while space is more limited than on a modern catamaran, it is well thought out. Each hull will have two bathrooms, each serving two cabins. The saloon remains bright and offers ample living space for four people to cruise in complete comfort while regularly entertaining guests. The galley runs parallel to the saloon, and a chart table faces forward.
In summary, the Catana 40 is an excellent catamaran. Very rare on the used boat market, these boats are quite difficult to sell. Very few have been used for charter management.
