Chantiers de l’Atlantique, in Saint-Nazaire, is building the world’s largest sailing yacht. The Corinthian, which will be operated by Orient Express, is set to begin sailing in 2026.
The yacht, measuring 220 meters in length, has been designed to reduce fuel consumption through its sails and integrates emission reduction technologies along with a marine mammal detection system to minimize its environmental impact.
Innovative Propulsion: A Hybrid and Sustainable Sailing Yacht
The yacht will be equipped with three tilting masts, each over 100 meters tall, carrying rigid SolidSail sails of 1,500 m² each. This wind propulsion system will allow for a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions, saving up to 9,000 tons per year.
The Orient Express Corinthian combines SolidSail technology with a hybrid propulsion system powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), with the ability to transition to green hydrogen once the technology is approved for passenger vessels.
Additionally, the yacht will feature:
- An artificial intelligence detection system to prevent collisions with marine mammals and reduce underwater noise pollution.
- An advanced dynamic positioning system, allowing the yacht to remain anchored without dropping anchor, thereby protecting marine ecosystems.
A Luxury Cruise Sailing Yacht
Architect Maxime d’Angeac designed the interiors of the Corinthian, drawing inspiration from the golden age of the Orient Express, blending contemporary design with traditional craftsmanship. The suites feature panoramic windows offering breathtaking sea views, while common areas are adorned with luxurious materials such as wood, leather, and marble.
The Orient Express Corinthian has been designed to offer an unparalleled experience for passengers. Its layout includes:
- 54 panoramic suites, including 6 penthouses located on deck 7.
- 5 restaurants and 8 bars, under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alléno.
- A wellness area, featuring a spa, a fitness center, and a 16.6-meter pool.
- A Parisian-style cabaret and a cinema.
- A recording studio and an amphitheater.
The yacht will primarily sail in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Caribbean, with exclusive stopovers that allow passengers to immerse themselves in breathtaking coastal landscapes.
